The History of Harbour Insurance Agency
In 1958 Robert went into the Insurance business selling life and health insurance. In 1963 Robert began his own Insurance Agency partnering with his mother Dorothy Burr, starting the “Dorothy Burr Agency” from her home on
In 1977 Robert and Dorothy purchased “Harbour Insurance Agency,” located at the time in Scituate Harbor. In 1985 Harbour Insurance Incorporated and the family business grew. Harbour Insurance Agency Inc. acquired two large agencies in Scituate, MA, Damon Insurance Agency and Ward Swift Insurance Agency. In 1993 the Agency expanded the corporation by purchasing the Norris Insurance Agency in Carver, MA. Harbour Insurance has occupied three different locations over the years in Scituate Harbor before finally purchasing their own building on the Driftway in 1995.
The family business now includes three generations; Robert's three sons Rob, Steve and Doug work within the agencies, Steve joined Harbour Insurance in 1978 and now his three sons work along side him. Harbour Insurance Agency located in Scituate and Carver continues to be a growing and successful family business.
Harbour Insurance and the Town of Scituate
Harbour Insurance Agency has been a huge supporter of the town of Scituate.
Robert M. Drew was voted "Citizen of the Year," in Scituate, MA in 2002.
Robert and Virginia Drew and Harbour Insurance Agency have been supporting the "Scituate Youth Center" since 1965. Robert became President of the Scituate Youth Center in 2005. Virginia has been the secretary and treasurer for the Youth Center for many years.
Since 2002 Harbour Insurance Agency has given scholarships to deserving college bound Scituate High School students.
